Our Mission

Wallaby was established in Wilmington in 2012.
Since then we have produced thousands of videos with hundreds of millions of views and won various industry awards. Our clients include regional and national companies such as NC Ports, Wilmington Business Development, REEDS Jewelers, Barilla, Tag Heuer and AT&T. We credit our rapid growth and success in our belief that a great video starts with a great story. On every project we get to know our client, understand the story they need to tell, and their goals for the video. Then we get to work making the best video possible.

Full Service Video Production Agency
Our services
Wallaby is a full service video production agency. That means we are a one stop shop for all our clients’ video needs. That includes concept creation through production all the way to editing and delivery.

Retainer
We have always had a focus on building strong relationships with our clients. Having Wallaby on retainer is like having an entire team of video production experts on standby for whatever is needed. We cover all aspects of production that our clients need. This can include full service productions as well as internal corporate messaging, training, re-edits for social media and much more.

Full Service
We offer our clients every aspect of production to get their idea for a story into a completed video. This includes working from their concept or presenting concept options, presenting budget options or working within the available budget. The Wallaby team then reserves crew, equipment, can help schedule, cast if necessary and provide all editing, revisions and different deliverables.

Cinematography
We work on many projects where we provide a cinematographer for clients who already have a concept and team. This cinematographer takes care of scouting, lighting plots if needed, camera and lens options, etc. They also work closely with the director and/or producer to make sure they are providing beautiful imagery that matches our clients’ vision.

Editing
Whether it is a project we shot, or footage our clients provide, Wallaby offers a whole suite of editing services. This includes ingesting and organizing media, color correction, sound design including music and voice overs, graphics and effects, color correction and exporting different deliverables and aspect ratios for our clients’ needs.

Producing
Filmmaking is all about logistics. Wallaby is known in the Wilmington film community as having some of the best run sets. It’s why our crew loves working with us. With our producer services we take care of casting, scheduling, crew hiring, craft services, call sheets, location and talent releases, and whatever other production needs arise.

Rentals
We have a whole selection of film production gear at various levels so we can hit any budget our clients have. We love our gear, and when we aren’t using it we want it in the hands of other filmmakers and video production experts. We have cameras, lenses, camera support, grip and lighting, vehicles and more from trusted brands like Sony, Arri, Cooke, Zeiss, Aputure and more.

The History of Wallaby
Our Story
Alex Hoelscher started Wallaby in 2012 in a spare room of his apartment in Wilmington NC. Wallaby was a side hustle before that was a term. In these early days, Wallaby had one high end camera for rent and one primary production client.
In 2016 Wallaby became Alex’s full time job, though he was still its only employee. The business also moved out of his house and into a rented office. More gear was acquired, and Wallaby’s network of contractors grew as did its clientbase.
Between 2016 and 2022 Wallaby won multiple industry awards for its work and produced content for a variety of clients including a TV show, nationally broadcast commercials, promotional videos and various music videos. We had a short documentary, short film and multiple music videos get into Cucalorus and other film festivals.
When COVID hit in 2020, Wallaby found itself providing more and more editing services, and continued to grow. We also worked with our clients to adapt content to a rapidly changing world. When it was safe to be on set, we had a list of production needs for various clients, and hit the ground running. We also began work on a feature documentary in 2021, slated for a 2024 release.
In 2022 Wallaby outgrew its rented office, and moved into it’s own building in the Castle Street Historic District in downtown Wilmington. The building was completely renovated and is now Wallaby’s home.
Wallaby now has multiple full time employees and a deep network of contractors for use on larger projects. The company also has a roster of regional and national clients, and provides video production as a retainer service.
